Issue 4 of the zine is here! This issue explores the ties between unschooling and anarchism. How can unschooling be used as a tool for liberation? What have anarchists thought about education in the past?
For the past three years of my life I’ve been unschooled. I haven’t stepped foot in a school building since I was 15. Instead, I’ve spent my time on the things that I care about. I’ve made art, spent time with the people I care about, and dedicated large amounts of my time to making this zine.
My interest in unschooling and my interest in anarchism grew alongside each other. They’ve always been personally intertwined for me. My unschooling has always been a political act. I am intentionally divesting from school (an institution that serves to oppress marginalized people) and prioritizing my health and rest over capitalist expectations. I wanted this issue of the zine to be an exploration of the ties between them, on a personal level and at a broader level. I explore some personal reflections on unschooling, highlight some anarchist/libertarian educators, and go through some resources you could use if you want to direct your own education. There are also two contributions from other unschoolers (everyone who contributed to this issue is unschooled)!
Thank you to everyone who contributed and helped me make this issue ❤
